Business Grants in the South West

The South West covers a huge geographic and economic range - from Bristol's fintech and aerospace hub to Cornwall's rural and maritime economy. Grant funding is available across this range, but finding the right programme requires knowing which geographic funding boundaries you sit within and which sector programmes apply to your business.

GWE Business West

GWE Business West is the Growth Hub for the West of England and provides free grant navigation support for businesses in Bristol, Bath, South Gloucestershire, and North Somerset. Its Business West service covers Somerset and Wiltshire. UK Shared Prosperity Fund grants for the West of England are co-ordinated through the combined authority and GWE. The West of England Combined Authority (WECA) manages the region's investment fund and innovation programmes.

Aerospace and defence

Bristol's aerospace cluster - Airbus, Rolls-Royce, GKN, and hundreds of tier-2 and tier-3 suppliers - creates one of the most active Innovate UK and defence SBIR environments outside London. The West of England Aerospace Forum (WEAF) connects suppliers to Innovate UK and Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) grant competitions. The National Composites Centre at the University of Bristol supports grant applications in composite materials and aerospace structures.

Cornwall and rural South West

Cornwall and Devon have specific EU legacy and UKSPF funding administered through the local councils. Cornwall specifically has retained some funding pathways from its former Objective 1 EU status. Rural businesses across the South West access the Rural England Prosperity Fund through UKSPF. Marine and fisheries businesses access Fisheries and Seafood Scheme (FaSS) grants through Defra.
